Somerset House is located pretty much right in the centre of London, if such a thing can be said to exist. Overlooking the Thames and mere steps from all the theatrics of Leicester Square, Covent Garden and a plethora of museums and galleries, it’s in prime position to serve the cultural tastes of tourists and locals alike.
With exhibitions, open-air cinema screenings, concerts and events held all year round, one of its most consistently popular initiatives is the annual Summer Series. The musical line-up is always impressive, drawing in the most talented artists in every genre from across the world, and the neoclassical 18th century open-air courtyard venue itself creates an unparalleled atmosphere.
For 2015, Somerset House has arranged an entire 11-night run of gigs and acts for what it terms the “highlight of our music programme”. It’s London’s chance to host a festival without the mud, Portaloos or tents, and some of the biggest names in pop, electro, funk and rock will be gracing the stage for our listening pleasure. Kicking off this year’s celebrations on July 9th will be Montreal’s electro-funk legends Chromeo, who will be followed on later dates by the likes of the fantastic George Ezra, James Bay, Passenger, Aussie folksters Angus and Julia Stone, Scotland’s finest Belle and Sebastian and the irrepressible Jessie J, who will be closing proceedings on the 19th of July.
As every year, the biggest acts will inevitably sell out fast and furiously, so you’ll want to be quick off the mark. They go on sale as of the end of March so snap up yours, and enjoy one of the classiest open-air shindigs you’ll find in the UK, let alone in London.
Amba Hotel Charing Cross is just a short stroll away from Somerset House and all the other attractions the area has to offer in culture, restaurants, shops, nightlife… make sure you don’t miss out on our summer deals and take advantage of everything this amazing city has to offer.
