"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, Les Enfants Terribles' spectacular immersive theatre production “Alice’s Adventures Underground” is a truly unique retelling of this classic and much-loved tale.

The cavernous Vaults below Waterloo Station are the perfect backdrop for the mystery and madness that ensues. This is no mere folly however: there is a task at hand. No chance for snoozing in the shadows or disappearing off to the bar at the interval - whether through verbal or physical interaction, prepare to get involved. The search is on for Alice who has been lost in the looking glass…

A rousing mix of music, circus acts and puppetry, this is story-telling at its absolute best. Journey through Wonderland and marvel at the fantastical-turned-real. Listen to the stories of the former Wonderland: once gloriously nonsensical, now devoid of imagination, as decreed by the terrifying Queen of Hearts. Irrational and unpredictable, this deranged and downright screechy monarch is more than just mad as a hatter. You’d be wise to follow the sound advice of your chaperones too, who are there to ensure that your head stays firmly attached to your shoulders. This is no place to aimlessly wander around, with each twist and turn in the magical maze introducing a new character. Vividly brought to life and resplendent in their portrayal, there’s not a Disney cartoon in sight. True to the story, you’ll soon be engrossed in this heady world of silliness, questioning what is normal - “I knew who I was this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then”. From the Cheshire Cat to the Knave of Hearts, the entire cast are captivating and convincing in their plight to restore Wonderland to its former utopia of joyful jesting.

If you make it through without offending the Queen and do manage to find Alice, your efforts will be rewarded and freedom granted in the Wonderland bar. Be you Heart, Club, Diamond or Spade, all are welcome in this weird and wonderful space, providing the perfect setting to regroup and figure out what on earth you have just experienced. Each journey is distinctive to the audience member, so you’re sure to have enough stories to swap until the early hours.
